So, spring has sprung!
Just because it’s been raining her for at least 72 straight hours doesn’t mean that the energy of spring is not everywhere!
I know spring is here because my eyes are watery, I sneeze all day and the birds wake me up every morning! It is one of my favorite times of the year!
With the arrival of April also comes the end of the first quarter of 2010 and another chance to check in with ourselves to see how this year is going so far.
Here are my six principles for preparing for Spring:
1. Shed
I noticed over the past two weeks that my beautiful golden retriever, Molly, suddenly has clumps of hair simply falling off of her. We spent a lot of time outside this winter and she, in turn, grew herself a full and warm undercoat of fur. Now, she is beginning to feel the arrival of spring and has started shedding all of the unwanted fur.
I, too, feel the need to shed each year as Spring approaches.
Perhaps it is the extra pounds put on over the winter, or perhaps it is the excess clutter around the house. It could even be any of the emotional, financial or professional challenges that you have been addressing.
This is YOUR time to shed!
Kick in a new exercise routine! Go through your closets and purge all those things you will not wear anymore! Create a ritual where you release all of your past challenges into the universe!
There are so many opportunities to shed during this time of the year…you won’t believe how amazing you will feel when you begin the process!
2. Renew
By now you know that I love any opportunity to renew. To me, spring is the perfect renewal opportunity!
Flowers are coming to life, trees are growing their leaves, and the grass goes from winter cover to a full, green and lush carpet.
It is a time for YOU to renew as well. Your spirit, soul and body need it…like the animals all around, it is time for us to come out of our winter hibernation, breathe in the fresh air and shed our winter coats.
Take time today to make a list of all the things you would like to do to renew your mind, body and soul this spring!
3. Reinvent
In additional to renewing, this is also a wonderful time for reinventing. But what does this really mean?
Well, you get to CHOOSE how you would like your spring to look.
What do you want to be, do, create and experience this spring? Do you want to connect with old hobbies and recreations? Perhaps you would like to try out new things this spring? New activities, new interests or new ways of managing your time?
If you have always wanted to plant a vegetable garden, pick a small part of your garden and drop in a few seeds! Imagine what you might grow!
Spring is the best possible time of the year to plant YOUR seeds for your best year yet!
4. Embracing your sensuality
One of the things that always happens to me in the spring is that I begin to feel more sensual! I feel more open to new experiences and interested in being playful and flirty!
Spring and summer clothes show off just a bit more skin and the colors are always upbeat and vibrant! I enjoy it all!
Something about the leaves on the trees and the colors all around makes me want to light candles, try a new perfume and connect with the free spirit that I am!
If you have felt isolated and overwhelmed over the long winter, spring will offer you the perfect opportunity to embrace your sensuality. As you do your Spring Cleaning in the house, make sure you include places for candles, pillows for relaxing and a space in which you can be free to express yourself. Maybe you need an Extreme Bedroom Makeover….creating a sensual space in which you can relax.
If you are not sure how to do this, invest in a book on creating sensual spaces…or call me and I am happy to help!
5. Create New Patterns in your Life
Sometimes we get ourselves into a routine or pattern that we don’t really want to be in.
For example, maybe over the long, cold winter, you stopped getting to the gym on a regular basis. Or, if you are anything like me, your meal planning has become boring and less full of delicious fruits and veggies.
Spring allows for us to create new patterns and let go of the old!
This is a great time to commit to a new way of doing things. Perhaps it is how you spend time with your kids. If staying inside and watching movies together has become the routine around your house, turn off the tv and get your kids outside with you for a great hike or bike ride.
With a little creativity and commitment, you can create all kinds of new patterns for yourself this spring!
6. Re-discover your MOJO and Step into Your Power!
There is something about the spring that makes me feel powerful!
I don’t know if it is the blooming taking place all around or the warmer weather, but I begin to feel a lightness and confidence that I really love!
I find myself turning up the volume on my car radio, putting music on in my house as I “putter around” and dancing around as I cook and clean.
Spring has always meant taking beautiful and scenic drives, stopping into nurseries around the state and checking out plants for my potted garden, and taking myself out in the evenings if I don’t have plans.
Spring can be YOUR time for stepping into your bold, beautiful and brilliant self! Everywhere you go, put a big smile on your face and welcome the new season!
I hope that these principles help to prepare you for springing forward!
If you know you want to be there but just can’t seem to find the way to do it, get support.
With a little bit of guidance and the ability to reframe the challenges that life has thrown you, YOU can change your path and design a life full of joy and fulfillment. It is my pleasure to serve and support you!
